Amazon.com's cloud computing unit, Amazon Web Services, will license chip design intellectual property from Synopsys under a multi-year deal worth more than $1 billion. The companies did not specify which AWS chips will use Synopsys blueprints.

Synopsys’ chip design licensing business generated $1.75 billion in revenue in its most recent fiscal year. The company has expanded from licensing common chip components to more complex designs, including computing cores.
