T-Mobile Secures USGA 5G Partnership; Broadcom-Samsung Launch Wi-Fi 8 Platform
TMUS•T-Mobile secured a multi-year 5G Network Partnership for the U.S. Women’s Open, U.S. Open and other USGA championships, using network slicing for real-time Rules Review, ticket scanning and on-course content delivery. Broadcom and Samsung unveiled the first Wi-Fi 8 wireless platform, though it has limited impact on T-Mobile’s 5G focus.
1. USGA Championship Partnership
T-Mobile entered a multi-year agreement as the Official 5G Network Partner for the U.S. Women’s Open, U.S. Open and additional USGA championships, embedding its 5G capabilities across marquee events.
2. 5G Network Slicing for Real-Time Rules Review
T-Mobile is deploying an optimized 5G network slice to power the USGA’s first mobile Rules Review, granting officials on-course access to video footage and instant communication for faster, more accurate rulings.
3. Enhanced Fan Experience and Operations
The deal extends to ticket scanning, point-of-sale connectivity and rapid photo content delivery using 5G Advanced Network Solutions, while T-Mobile members receive complimentary gallery tickets, lawn chairs and other on-site perks.
4. Broadcom-Samsung Wi-Fi 8 Platform Launch
Broadcom and Samsung introduced the first Wi-Fi 8 wireless platform for fixed wireless access, offering low-latency connections that present limited direct competition with T-Mobile’s 5G network services.
