TSM•Taiwanese Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung is visiting Arizona for the opening of a de facto consulate in Phoenix. Taiwan's foreign ministry called the office a milestone in the Taiwan-US economic and trade partnership.
1. Phoenix office opening
Lin Chia-lung is visiting Arizona for the opening of a new de facto Taiwanese consulate in Phoenix, his office said Sunday. Taiwan's foreign ministry said the office marks a “milestone in Taiwan-US economic and trade partnership.”
2. Trade and diplomacy
The ministry said it would continue linking diplomacy, trade, economics and industry to deepen the partnership. Taiwanese chipmaker TSMC is investing $265 billion in Arizona to make semiconductors.
3. US-Taiwan ties
The United States is Taiwan's most important international partner and arms supplier, despite the absence of formal diplomatic ties. President Lai Ching-te has yet to visit the United States under President Donald Trump's second administration; Trump said in May that he was holding a new arms sales package for Taiwan as a negotiating chip.
