1. Retail Milestone Achieved

On March 15, Target launched its 2,000th store in Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina, with four additional openings in Bakersfield, Delano, Springfield and Dallas. This milestone underscores the retailer’s growth across diverse U.S. markets.

2. Expansion and Remodel Plans

Target intends to open more than 30 new stores and remodel over 130 existing locations in 2026, deploying part of a newly committed $5 billion capital expenditure budget announced at its investor day. These investments aim to refresh store assortments and integrate new technology.

3. Enhanced Store Features

The Fuquay-Varina location spans 148,000 square feet—23,000 square feet above Target’s average—and features a food and beverage department that is 30% larger than usual, alongside an on-site CVS Pharmacy, Starbucks café and Disney Shop.

4. Operational and Labor Adjustments

In parallel with its expansion, Target reduced approximately 500 corporate and supply chain positions to reallocate payroll toward store staffing, supporting CEO Michael Fiddelke’s strategy to elevate the guest experience and operational efficiency.
