TGT•Target is piloting a new performance assessment system evaluating store workers on customer greeting, engagement, reliability and teamwork as part of CEO Michael Fiddelke’s turnaround plan. Over 300,000 employees completed the related training and the company plans to open 30 new stores and remodel 130 locations this year.

Target has launched a pilot performance review system that scores store employees on customer greeting, assistance, execution reliability and teamwork. This framework aims to standardize service quality across locations by tracking key interaction metrics and operational consistency.
2. Employee Training and Execution Standards
Over 300,000 store workers have undergone training focused on greeting shoppers within 10 feet, engaging within four feet, and maintaining upbeat interactions. The program also covers merchandising execution, inventory reliability and teamwork protocols to enhance in-store experiences.
3. Store Expansion and Remodel Plans
To complement improved service, Target plans to open more than 30 new stores and remodel over 130 existing locations this year. These investments are intended to boost market penetration and modernize shopping environments under the broader turnaround strategy.
