Target reports higher Q2 sales and earnings

- Net earnings doubled to $1.88 billion; operating income climbed 94.4% to $2.56 billion, boosted by $994 million pretax refunds.
- Net sales rose 5.3% to $26.54 billion; comparable sales increased 3.8%, driven by 3.6% higher comparable traffic.
- Operating margin widened 4.4 percentage points to 9.6%; gross margin rate expanded 4.7 percentage points to 33.7%.
