Telefónica updates climate action plan, sticks to 2040 net-zero target
TEF•Telefónica updated its climate action plan and retained its goal of net-zero emissions by 2040, including a target to cut total emissions 90%. In 2025, scope 1 and 2 emissions were down 92.8% from 2015, while scope 3 emissions fell 28.2% from 2016.

Telefónica updated its Climate Action Plan, embedding climate targets in business decisions to support its 2040 net-zero goal. The plan targets a 90% cut in total emissions, with remaining emissions to be neutralized; in 2025, scope 1 and 2 emissions fell 92.8% versus 2015 and scope 3 emissions dropped 28.2% versus 2016.
2. Offsets and financing
The company said it offset 100% of scope 1 and 2 emissions in Spain, Germany and Brazil by retiring 48,395 carbon credits. Sustainable financing accounted for 40.7% of total group funding at the end of 2025.
