Telefónica CEO Murtra urges Catalan business leaders to drive group transformation at Foment del Treball event

Telefónica Executive Chairman Marc Murtra addressed a Foment del Treball meeting with Catalan business leaders on Sept. 4, 2026.

Murtra framed a group-wide overhaul to lift competitiveness, citing market exits, workforce cuts, capital allocation changes and management renewal.

Telefónica raised its 2026 adjusted OpCFaL growth outlook in July to more than 3% from more than 2%.

Murtra cited Catalonia footprint: EUR 121 million invested in 2025, about 1,043 employees and 6.48 million customer accesses.

He pushed a European agenda centered on technology sovereignty, competitiveness, security and digital rights, targeting top-tier European telco status by 2030.
