Tesla and SpaceX Plan Austin Chip Fabs to Produce One Terawatt Annually
Elon Musk announced that SpaceX and Tesla will build two advanced chip factories in Austin, Texas—one fab to power vehicles and humanoid robots, another for AI data centers in space—targeting one terawatt of computing capacity annually. Musk also revealed X Money will launch in April with crypto features for 600 million users, fueling an 8% surge in Dogecoin.
1. Chip Factory Announcement
Tesla and SpaceX will jointly construct two advanced chip manufacturing facilities at a new Austin complex, with one plant dedicated to producing chips for electric vehicles and Optimus humanoid robots and the other engineered for AI processing in space-based data centers.
2. Terafab Capacity and Chip Designs
The combined Terafab complex is designed to deliver one terawatt of computing power per year—double current U.S. output—and will focus each fab on a single chip design, one optimized for automotive and robotics applications and the other for high-temperature, radiation-resistant space operations.
3. X Money Crypto Features and Dogecoin Surge
Elon Musk also confirmed that X Money will launch in April with built-in cryptocurrency features for 600 million users, a move that drove an 8% rally in Dogecoin as investors anticipated broader adoption in his social media ecosystem.
