Tesla is beginning deliveries of its Semi trucks to a first set of customers this week and reiterated plans to build 50,000 a year at its Nevada plant. The long-range version has a stated range of 500 miles when loaded, while the standard version has a 325-mile range.
Tesla executives said deliveries of Semi trucks to a first set of customers are beginning this week. Customers including PepsiCo, DHL and US Foods were invited to an event at Tesla’s Nevada plant, where trucks bearing their logos were shown.
Tesla did not disclose production volume plans or truck pricing, but reiterated plans to build 50,000 Semis a year at the Nevada plant. Tesla’s director of Semi truck engineering, Dan Priestley, said the loaded long-range version can drive 500 miles on one charge, calling it “500 real-world miles” validated by customers. A standard version has a range of 325 miles.
The Semi was unveiled in 2017, with production initially expected to start in 2019. Tesla began limited customer deliveries in late 2022; its July shareholder letter said production would begin in 2026, removing an earlier forecast for volume production this year. This week, a coalition of cargo-owning shippers including Microsoft and PepsiCo ordered 2,500 Semis, Catalyst Mobility said.
