Tesla Recalls All 173 RWD Cybertrucks Over Wheel Separation Risk
Tesla has recalled all 173 rear-wheel-drive Cybertruck units delivered to date after identifying that front wheel fasteners may loosen and cause wheel separation. The recall, initiated May 10, directs owners to schedule complimentary inspections and retorque operations at service centers to mitigate the safety hazard before further unit deliveries.
1. Recall Scope and Timing
Tesla has initiated a recall of every rear-wheel-drive Cybertruck ever sold, totaling 173 units, after discovering a potential wheel separation issue. The campaign went into effect on May 10 and covers all RWD models delivered to customers.
2. Nature of the Defect
Engineers found that front suspension wheel fasteners can loosen under normal driving conditions, increasing the risk of a wheel detaching. No injuries have been reported, but two instances of wheel wobble were noted during internal testing.
3. Corrective Measures
Owners will receive a complimentary inspection and retorque service at Tesla service centers, with parts and labor provided at no charge. Tesla expects to complete all required fixes within 30 days of owner notification.
4. Impact on Deliveries and Production
The recall is limited to the RWD variant and does not affect dual- and tri-motor Cybertruck models. Tesla has indicated that this action should have minimal impact on overall production and upcoming deliveries.
