Tesla set to formally roll out Semi electric trucks at Nevada event

1. Semi rollout event
Tesla said it is set to roll out its Semi trucks at the inauguration of its plant in Sparks, Nevada, nearly nine years after CEO Elon Musk unveiled the trucks. The first truck came off the high-volume production line in April, but Tesla’s July shareholder letter said production would begin in 2026, removing an earlier forecast for volume production this year.
2. Orders and capacity
Tesla received an order for 2,500 Semis this week from a coalition of major cargo-owning shippers, including Microsoft and PepsiCo, nonprofit Catalyst Mobility said. The order is nearly double the existing U.S. fleet of electric Class 8 trucks, the nonprofit said. Tesla has said the Nevada factory is being set up for annual capacity of up to 50,000 units.
3. Customer demand
Tesla began limited deliveries to customers including PepsiCo in late 2022. The article notes delays, rising competition and changes in U.S. EV policies as factors raising concerns about demand. Last month, Swedish freight technology company Einride announced a deal to add 500 Semis to its fleet.
