Tesla to Begin Pedal-Free Cybercab Production in April With 5X Output Plan
Tesla will launch production of its pedal- and steering-wheel-free Cybercab in April under a radical manufacturing redesign targeting roughly 5x higher peak output. Musk warns initial output will be very slow before scaling to super-high volume and predicts Tesla’s autonomous fleet will outsize all rivals indefinitely.
1. April Production Start
Tesla will begin production of the Cybercab in April, launching its first vehicle without a steering wheel or pedals designed for autonomous driving. The move underscores Tesla’s shift toward purpose-built mobility services beyond consumer cars.
2. Radical Manufacturing Redesign
To support Cybercab output, Tesla is implementing a radical manufacturing overhaul targeting roughly 5x higher peak production rates compared to its current lines. Musk cautions that the production curve will start slowly before accelerating sharply as processes mature.
3. Autonomous Fleet Ambition
Musk envisions the Cybercab driving Tesla’s autonomous fleet ambitions, claiming it will underpin the largest network of autonomous vehicles for years to come. Current Supervised Full Self-Driving vehicles operate at Level 2, but Cybercab’s design lays groundwork for fully driverless services.
