Texas governor-elect says state will have laws to shield citizens from data centers
XLK•Texas Governor-elect Gina Hinojosa said the state needs to pause data center activity until it has measures to protect Texans. She said her administration can work with Elon Musk and his companies, but on its own terms.
1. Call for protections
Hinojosa said in a CNN interview that Texas needs to stop what it is doing with data centers until protections are in place. “We will have laws to protect Texans,” she said.
2. Musk and Texas
Hinojosa said she objected to the way data centers were taking advantage of Texas, not to data centers themselves. She also said the state could have a strong working relationship with Musk and his companies, but that they could not “just run over the people of Texas.” Musk’s SpaceX and Tesla are headquartered in Texas, where he is also planning a chipmaking venture.
