ERCOT forecasts record power demand

NEW YORK, July 21 (Reuters) - Texas electric grid operator ERCOT forecast record-breaking power demand on Tuesday as temperatures soar in the Lone Star State, driving up energy use for homes and businesses.

Preliminary data on ERCOT's website shows peak electricity demand on the grid is forecast to reach 89,812 megawatts on the day, surpassing the most recent record of roughly 85,000 megawatts.
Temperatures in the state were expected to reach 99 degrees Fahrenheit (37 degrees Celsius), according to the National Weather Service, prompting the use of energy-intensive cooling systems.
