Texas Instruments Unveils 26-Cell EIS-Enabled Battery Monitor with 44% More Channels
TXN•Texas Instruments introduced the BQ79826Z-Q1, the industry's first 26-cell battery monitor with integrated EIS engine, boosting channel count by 44% and reducing system costs via fewer components. It offers <2mV voltage accuracy across –40°C to +125°C, ASIL D and ISO 26262 compliance, and preproduction units available now.
1. Industry-First 26-Cell Monitor
Texas Instruments introduced the BQ79826Z-Q1, the first battery monitor supporting 26 cells in series—44% more channels than previous generations and eight more than competing solutions—reducing system complexity and lowering bill of materials by requiring fewer discrete monitoring components.
2. Integrated EIS Engine Enhances Safety
The built-in electrochemical impedance spectroscopy engine delivers continuous, real-time chemical-state data from within each cell, enabling early detection of thermal runaway and other fault conditions to significantly improve safety in electric vehicles and energy storage systems.
3. Technical Specifications and Compliance
The BQ79826Z-Q1 achieves <2 mV voltage accuracy over a –40 °C to +125 °C range, performs EIS measurements five times faster than prior devices, and meets Automotive Safety Integrity Level D and ISO 26262 functional safety standards for automotive applications.
4. Availability and Production Timeline
Preproduction units of the BQ79826Z-Q1 are available now on TI.com, with full production expected by the end of 2026; evaluation modules and reference designs are provided to support engineers and accelerate time to market.
