Top oil executives dropped from event schedule after Riyadh attacks
XOM•The CEOs of ExxonMobil, TotalEnergies, Shell, Chevron and BP were removed from the WPC Energy Congress schedule in Riyadh after deadly attacks on the capital. The companies had been expected to speak at the event, which began Sunday.
1. Executives removed from agenda
The chief executives of ExxonMobil, TotalEnergies, Shell, Chevron and BP were no longer on the WPC Energy Congress agenda released Monday, after having been expected at the event. Saudi Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman opened Monday’s session and said the kingdom was safe, while warning that the risk had not gone away.
2. Attacks and company response
The congress is being held about 10 kilometres from Riyadh’s international airport, which was attacked four times in the last week. Saudi authorities reported one person killed and nearly a dozen injured in an airport attack on Sunday evening, a day after a Houthi-claimed strike killed 13 people and wounded more than 300. BP said travel disruption prevented its in-person attendance; Shell declined to comment, while TotalEnergies, ExxonMobil and Chevron did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
