Top oil executives dropped from event schedule after Riyadh attacks
XLE•Chief executives of ExxonMobil, TotalEnergies, Shell, Chevron and BP were removed from the WPC Energy Congress schedule in Riyadh after attacks on the capital. The conference went ahead, while one person was killed and nearly a dozen injured in an airport attack on Sunday evening.
1. Executives removed from schedule
The chief executives of ExxonMobil, TotalEnergies, Shell, Chevron and BP had been expected at the WPC Energy Congress, which began on Sunday, but were no longer on the agenda released early Monday. BP said travel disruption prevented its representatives from attending in person; Shell declined to comment, and the other three companies did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
2. Congress proceeds in Riyadh
Saudi Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman opened Monday’s session and said the country was safe, while warning that the risk had not gone away. He said recent events were serious and that the kingdom’s response must be “equally serious,” adding that Vision 2030 must continue.
3. Attacks near conference
The congress is being held about 10 kilometres from Riyadh’s international airport, which has been attacked four times in the last week. One person was killed and nearly a dozen injured in an attack on Sunday evening, a day after a strike claimed by Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthis killed 13 people and wounded more than 300.
