Toronto stocks edge higher as miners lead

August 21 (Reuters) - Canada's main stock index edged higher on Friday, led by miners as gold rallied, while investors weighed lingering strains in global bond markets and a diplomatic deadlock in the Middle East conflict.

The S&P/TSX Composite Index .GSPTSE gained 0.7% at 9:30 a.m. ET.
