August 24 (Reuters) - Canada's commodity-heavy stock index opened higher on Monday, lifted by mining shares as precious metals gained, while investors weighed new U.S. tariffs on Canadian goods and awaited details on the United States' threat to impose sanctions against Iran.
The S&P/TSX Composite Index .GSPTSE gained 0.3% to 36,701.25 points at 9:32 a.m. ET.
