TotalEnergies Files for Approval of €4.5 B 1.5 GW Normandy Wind Farm
TTE•TotalEnergies has applied for regulatory approval for its 1.5 GW offshore wind farm off Normandy, expecting to generate 6 TWh annually. The €4.5 billion project aims to supply over one million homes, create up to 2,500 jobs, and bolster TotalEnergies’ global renewables capacity toward its 2030 targets.
1. Regulatory Approval Filing
TotalEnergies’ subsidiary Centre Manche Energies has submitted its application under France’s permitting framework for a 1.5 GW offshore wind farm located more than 40 km off the Normandy coast. The filing includes technical and environmental studies, preliminary engineering designs and installation plans required to advance the project to the next review phase by authorities. Ongoing consultations with regional stakeholders and government agencies are integrated into the environmental impact assessment.
2. Investment, Output and Jobs
The project involves a €4.5 billion capital outlay and is designed to generate around 6 TWh of electricity annually—enough to power over one million homes. Construction is expected to create up to 2,500 direct jobs across a three-year build-out period, with a focus on leveraging Normandy’s offshore wind supply chain and prioritizing European suppliers for turbines and subsea cables.
3. Strategic Renewables Growth
This development marks a key milestone in TotalEnergies’ integrated power strategy, contributing to its current 36 GW of gross renewable capacity and support of a 100 TWh net electricity production target by 2030. The Normandy project also aligns with France’s broader goal to expand offshore wind and diversify its energy mix beyond nuclear generation.
