TotalEnergies Overshoots 2025 Methane Target with 65% Reduction, Boosts Power to 48 TWh

TTETTE

TotalEnergies cut methane emissions by 65% versus 2020, beating its 60% 2025 target and on track for an 80% cut by 2030. Scope 1 and 2 emissions fell 28% since 2015 to 33.1 million tonnes in 2025, and net power generation rose to 48 TWh, driving an 18.6% lifecycle carbon intensity reduction.

1. Emissions Reduction Performance

TotalEnergies reduced methane emissions from operated assets by 65% versus 2020, surpassing its 60% 2025 target. Scope 1 and 2 emissions fell to 33.1 million tonnes in 2025, down 28% from 2015 and ahead of the 37 million tonne goal.

2. Low-Carbon Project Impact

New upstream projects in Brazil and the United States helped lower average emissions intensity to below 16 kg CO2e per barrel of oil equivalent, establishing a new internal benchmark for future developments.

3. Integrated Power Expansion

Net power generation climbed to 48 TWh in 2025, accounting for roughly 10% of hydrocarbon output, while lifecycle carbon intensity of energy products sold declined by 18.6% since 2015, exceeding the 17% reduction target.
