Toyota May Sales Drop 6.4% as BEV Sales Surge 138%
TM•Toyota global May sales fell 6.4% to 885,207 units; domestic shipments rose 8.3% to 156,639 units while overseas volumes dropped 9.1% to 728,568 due to Middle East conflict disruptions. In Jan–May, group volumes slid 2.1% to 4,463,796 units and electrified-vehicle sales jumped 6.8% to 2,217,174 units, accounting for 54% of total.
1. May Sales Decline
Japan's Toyota Motor Corporation saw May global vehicle sales fall 6.4% to 885,207 units; domestic shipments rose 8.3% to 156,639 units while overseas volumes dropped 9.1% to 728,568 due to Middle East conflict disruptions.
2. YTD Volume Trends
In the first five months, group sales slid 2.1% to 4,463,796 units with Japan up 5.6% at 900,942 units while overseas declined 3.9% to 3,562,854 units following the Hino spinoff.
3. Electrified Vehicle Growth
Electrified models accounted for 54% of total sales as units rose 6.8% to 2,217,174; battery electric vehicles surged 138% to 155,074 units and hybrid sales grew 2.3% to 1,915,659 units.
4. Daihatsu Sales Increase
Daihatsu sales climbed nearly 10% to 295,466 units year-to-date with domestic deliveries up 11% at 235,598 units and overseas shipments rising 5% to 59,868 units.
