Toyota Motor North America Announces 2026 Executive Retirements, Reassigns Legal and Sustainability Roles
Toyota Motor North America will retire senior VPs Sandra Phillips and Tom Stricker on July 31 and June 30, 2026, leading legal, regulatory, and environmental functions. Chris Yang will become chief legal officer and Enterprise Integrity head, while Liz Gibson and Kim Cockrell assume expanded sustainability and security roles.
1. Executive Retirements
Sandra Phillips, senior vice president of Enterprise Integrity, chief legal officer, corporate secretary and chief sustainability officer, will retire effective July 31, 2026, after strengthening Toyota’s compliance, legal and sustainability functions. Tom Stricker, group vice president of Regulatory Affairs and Environmental Sustainability, will retire effective June 30, 2026, following a career shaping Toyota’s environmental strategy and partnerships.
2. Chris Yang Promotion
Chris Yang, currently senior vice president of Enterprise Strategy and Solutions and deputy chief compliance and risk officer for Toyota Motor Corporation, will add the roles of chief legal officer and head of Enterprise Integrity. In this capacity, he will oversee Toyota Motor North America’s legal, compliance and audit functions, aligning them with global risk and governance standards.
3. Liz Gibson Appointment
Liz Gibson, group vice president and general counsel, will assume group vice president responsibilities for Regulatory Affairs and Environmental Sustainability, as well as corporate secretary and chief sustainability officer. Reporting to Yang, she will lead U.S. corporate sustainability strategy and manage regulatory policy and compliance for Toyota North America.
4. Kim Cockrell Expanded Duties
Kim Cockrell, senior vice president, chief human resources and administrative officer, will take on additional oversight of sustainability and community impact initiatives, along with corporate security and emergency management. These expanded duties position her to integrate human resources and safety functions with Toyota’s broader social and environmental objectives.
