Toyota Unveils 2027 GR86 with 228 HP, Brembo Brakes and Thunder Color
TM•The 2027 Toyota GR86 gains refined throttle calibration, smoother 4th-to-5th downshifts and expanded active-safety sensors, plus new Thunder exterior color and red Cockpit interior option. Optionally equipped with Brembo brakes, SACHS dampers and a performance package, the 2.4L boxer engine yields 228 hp/184 lb-ft and ships summer 2026.
1. Drivetrain and Safety Enhancements
Toyota engineers refined throttle calibration for smoother, more linear power delivery and widened the 4th-to-5th gear shifter chamfer by approximately 0.02 inches for improved downshift feel. Active safety upgrades include nearly doubled stereo-camera range for cruise control and a new monocular camera to detect objects at intersections.
2. Design and Interior Updates
The 2027 GR86 adds a new Thunder solid gray exterior color that accentuates sculpted body lines, alongside a bold Cockpit Red interior option featuring black Ultrasuede and red leather accents. Premium models receive cast iron black finishes on switches, knobs and shifters, while base grades sport GR-embossed fabric seats.
3. Performance Package Options
An available Performance Package includes red-painted Brembo four-piston front and two-piston rear calipers on 12.8-inch rotors and high-pressure SACHS nitrogen-filled dampers, designed to enhance braking performance, chassis control and steering feedback. The naturally aspirated 2.4-liter boxer engine maintains its 228 horsepower and 184 lb-ft torque output.
4. Production and Delivery Timeline
Toyota plans to launch the 2027 GR86 in summer 2026, offering both six-speed manual and automatic transmissions across base and Premium grades. Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Pricing and full specifications will be announced later this year.
