Toyota Warns EU’s 70% Local Sourcing Rule Could Boost Costs, Hinder Investment
TM•Toyota Europe warned the EU’s planned rules mandating in-EU assembly and 70% local sourcing for EVs and fleet vehicles could raise costs and deter investment at its eight plants. It also launched its “Endurance Is Our Game” campaign featuring Latino soccer events in Houston and Miami to boost truck engagement.
1. EU Regulatory Pushback
Toyota Europe executives have expressed concern that the European Union’s proposal requiring at least 70% of vehicle components to be sourced locally and completed assembly within the EU for electric and fleet models could significantly elevate production costs. With eight assembly plants across Europe, the automaker warns that these requirements may deter future investment, complicate supply chains and reduce regional competitiveness.
2. Latino Soccer Campaign Launch
Toyota has introduced its “Endurance Is Our Game” marketing initiative targeting Latino soccer fans, linking the resilience of fútbol supporters with the durability of its trucks. The campaign includes a cinematic “Tear Storm” spot, social activations featuring Anthony Ramos and experiential Toyota Fútbol Club events in Houston (June 27–28) and Miami (July 11–12) designed to strengthen brand loyalty among a key demographic.
