Traders add to bets on September Fed rate hike after jobs report
TLT•Rate-hike bets rise after strong jobs report
Traders on Friday took one look at the latest government jobs report showing stronger-than-expected job creation in August and resumed bidding up bets on a Federal Reserve interest-rate hike later this month.
Short-term interest-rate futures prices now imply about a 65% chance seen of an increase in the U.S. policy rate at the Fed's September 15-16 meeting, up from about 55% before the Bureau of Labor Statistics report. It showed employers had added almost three times as many jobs last month as economists had anticipated.
