TrueBlue survey of 1,200 temporary workers showed 48% reported higher interest in skilled trades versus prior years; 32% said “much more” interested.
Interest skewed to experienced workers; more than 80% of those reporting increased interest were ages 30-59.
Top stated motivators were paid training or apprenticeships at 31% and higher pay at 30%; job stability ranked third at 21%.
Biggest barriers were training cost at 29% and job stability concerns at 27%; 19% cited uncertainty about how to start.
Labor demand outlook remained tight; BLS projections cited about 650,000 annual openings in construction and extraction over the next decade.
