U.S. President Donald Trump signed a proclamation on Thursday granting certain chemical manufacturers a two-year exemption from a Biden-era Environmental Protection Agency emissions-control rule, the White House said, arguing the required compliance technology is not commercially available and that continued operation of the facilities is a matter of national security.
The proclamation covers manufacturers that produce chemicals used in semiconductor production, medical device sterilization, advanced manufacturing, and national defense systems, according to a fact sheet.
