Trump raises doubts about renewed attacks on Iran
USO•Donald Trump said he was not considering striking Iran after the U.S. midterm elections and said a deal with Tehran could happen. He reiterated that Iran must not possess a nuclear weapon.
1. Trump casts doubt on strikes
Asked whether he was considering striking Iran after the midterms, Trump replied, “no.” He had hinted in recent weeks at renewing attacks after the elections, but on Monday said a deal with Tehran “could happen.”
2. Negotiations continue
Iranian negotiators held a third consecutive day of talks with Qatari mediators in Doha on Sunday. Vice President JD Vance said there had been “a number of good conversations with the Iranians” and that he and Trump felt good about the prospects for a negotiated settlement.
3. Nuclear demand remains
Trump said the United States would not allow Iran to have a nuclear weapon. He also said the operation was not actually a war, adding that the United States had “done very little fighting” recently after strikes months earlier.
