TLT•Donald Trump said the Federal Reserve Board would like to see the country do badly because he thinks interest rates should come down. The 30-year mortgage rate last week reached its highest point in almost three years.
1. Trump criticizes Fed board
Asked about mortgage rates, Trump called Fed Chair Kevin Warsh “great” but said the rest of the board “would like to see the country do badly, in my opinion, because I think interest rates should come down.” Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said inflation was high because of the energy shock and said that after the Iran conflict, he expects energy markets to be well supplied and mortgage rates and the 10-year rate to come down toward the Fed’s target.
