Trump says he is still considering diesel export ban
USO•Donald Trump said he discusses a possible diesel export ban every day, as diesel reached a record $6.53 a gallon and gasoline prices rose more than 40% over the past year.
1. Ban remains under consideration
Trump said he has conversations about banning diesel exports “every day.” He said a ban could lower diesel costs but would have “a negative impact on gasoline” prices.
2. Fuel supply disruptions
Diesel reached a record $6.53 a gallon a week ago, while gasoline prices rose more than 40% over the past year. Trump cited Russia’s war in Ukraine as the main cause of rising diesel prices. Energy Secretary Chris Wright said diesel exports from the Middle East and China had been disrupted, and said the administration expected announcements soon from Europe about new diesel supplies.
3. Other measures weighed
The administration has also considered voluntary export limits by refiners and allowing broader sales of tax-exempt diesel. It has urged the European Union to release emergency diesel stocks.
