Trump says he talked to Xi about the Iran war
FXI•Trump said he discussed the Iran war with Xi Jinping. The U.S. ambassador to China said Trump called direct or indirect Chinese support for Iran unacceptable, and said Beijing had assured Washington it was not providing such support.
1. Trump’s comments
Asked whether he talked to Xi about Iran, Trump said, “We did,” adding, “I think we're going to do great.” The two leaders did not take formal questions during their three-day state visit to Washington.
2. China’s assurances
U.S. Ambassador to China David Perdue said Trump reiterated to Xi that direct or indirect support for Iran was “totally unacceptable.” Perdue said Washington received assurances from Beijing that it was not assisting Iran, adding, “We've seen movement ... on that already.”
3. Earlier allegations
Earlier this month, Trump brushed aside a report that Iran had acquired satellite images of a base in Jordan from Chinese entities before an attack in July that killed three U.S. troops. Trump said China spies on the United States and the United States spies on China.
