Trump says he will visit tanker in Texas with first oil from Venezuela deal
USO•Donald Trump said he plans to visit a Texas tanker carrying the first oil received from Venezuela under a deal with Washington. He called the shipment a gift of 1 million barrels and said it was the first of “BILLIONS of Barrels to come.”
1. First shipment arrives
Trump said he planned to visit a tanker in Texas containing the first oil received from Venezuela following a deal Washington made after deposing the country’s former leader. He said the shipment contained 1 million barrels and called it a gift to the United States.
2. Deal and timeline
Trump announced the agreement in August, saying it grants the United States access to a fifth of Venezuela’s crude reserves. The White House said in September that oil from the deal would probably reach US reserves in November. The United States has been working closely with the interim government led by acting President Delcy Rodriguez since US forces captured President Nicolas Maduro in January.
