Trump said he does not want to work with Xi on governing AI, saying the US is leading China and he wants to keep it that way. He said he discussed AI with Xi during the Chinese leader’s visit to the US last week.
2. Executives to discuss oversight
Trump was scheduled to meet with tech executives, including leaders from Anthropic, Meta, Google, Nvidia, Palantir and OpenAI. House Speaker Mike Johnson said the gathering would focus on balancing innovation and oversight, and said the US should not impose a moratorium or overregulate AI.
3. Poll finds public concern
A nationwide poll found that 73% of respondents worry AI companies have not done enough to prevent serious harm, while 55% said slowing AI development would be good. Under a June executive order, AI developers are asked to voluntarily submit covered frontier models to the US government for review before releasing them to trusted partners.
