Trump waives many Russia-related sanctions and tariffs before they take effect
USO•Donald Trump waived many Russia-related sanctions, restrictions and duties days before they were due to take effect under a law he signed last month. The law provided for tariffs of up to 100% on certain imports from countries buying Russian oil or gas or helping Russia evade sanctions.
1. Waiver issued
Trump said on Friday that he was waiving many sanctions, restrictions and duties under the law. In an executive order, he said he had certified to Congress that issuing the waiver at this time was in the national interests of the United States.
2. Tariffs under the law
The law, signed in mid-September, provided for tariffs of up to 100% within 30 days on goods from the five largest importers of Russian crude oil or gas, as well as countries that knowingly bought Russian oil or gas or were among the top five countries helping Russia evade sanctions. India, one of the biggest buyers of Russian oil, had raised concerns about the legislation.
