TSMC evaluates potential Texas investment, sources say
TSM•TSMC is evaluating a potential Texas investment to expand U.S. chip production, but has not finalized a plan. The move would be in addition to the $265 billion it has committed to Arizona, one source said.
1. Texas expansion under review
TSMC is evaluating a potential investment in Texas to expand chip production in the United States, two sources familiar with the matter said. The plans have not been finalized.
2. Arizona projects planned
The potential Texas investment would be in addition to TSMC’s $265 billion commitment to Arizona, one source said. Current and planned Arizona projects include 12 fabrication and advanced packaging facilities and an R&D center. CEO C.C. Wei said in July that “probably additional four or more fabs will be built,” referring to front-end and back-end facilities.
