TSMC 'prudent' going into 2027 after posting sixth straight quarter of record profit
TSM•TSMC said it is planning cautiously for 2027 because of macroeconomic uncertainty, even as third-quarter net profit rose 69% to T$763.1 billion, beating forecasts. It expects fourth-quarter revenue of $52.3 billion to $54.3 billion and forecasts 2026 revenue growth of about 44%.
1. Record quarterly profit
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co reported net profit of T$763.1 billion ($23.59 billion) for the July-to-September quarter, up 69% from a year earlier and above the T$746.3 billion analyst estimate. It was the company's sixth consecutive quarter of record profit and 11th consecutive quarter of profit growth.
2. Cautious 2027 planning
Chief Executive C.C. Wei said demand remains “extremely robust” and the company sees no sign of a slowdown in the AI trend, but it is planning prudently for 2027 as rising component prices and macroeconomic uncertainty weigh on consumer and price-sensitive markets. TSMC expects 2026 full-year revenue to grow about 44%, up from its previous forecast of more than 40%.
3. Revenue and expansion outlook
TSMC forecast fourth-quarter revenue of $52.3 billion to $54.3 billion, compared with $33.73 billion a year earlier, and kept its 2026 capital spending outlook at $60 billion to $64 billion. It said its second Arizona fab has completed construction, with mass production scheduled to start in the third quarter of 2027, and that it has sent teams to evaluate Texas expansion opportunities.
