TSX futures tick up ahead of key US labor-market data
EWC•December futures on Canada's S&P/TSX index rose 0.2% as investors awaited US jobs data and bond-market volatility eased.
1. Futures edge higher
December futures on the S&P/TSX were up 0.2% at 6:25 a.m. ET on Friday, joining a global relief rally as investors awaited US nonfarm payrolls data that could shape expectations for the Federal Reserve's next policy move.
2. Markets and energy
The US 10-year Treasury yield retreated after reaching its highest level since 2002 on Thursday, while Canada's 10-year yield eased to 3.920%. Oil prices fell about 3% following reports of talks over additional diesel and crude stock releases; gold was little changed but remained on track for a second consecutive weekly decline.
3. Canadian market context
Canada's main stock index closed at a 10-week low on Thursday and was on track for weekly losses. The index ended a five-month winning streak on Wednesday. Prime Minister Mark Carney said Canada would fast-track approval of a proposed crude oil export pipeline to its West Coast.
