TSX opens higher as weak jobs data reinforces BoC pause bets
EWC•Canada’s S&P/TSX Composite Index rose 0.64% to 35,370.36 points as weaker-than-expected jobs data reinforced bets that the Bank of Canada will hold rates at its meeting later this month.
1. Stocks rise at open
Canada’s blue-chip stock index rose on Friday, led by the materials sector, as investors assessed weaker-than-expected jobs data. The S&P/TSX Composite Index was up 0.64% at 35,370.36 points at 9:30 a.m. ET.
2. Rate pause bets
The jobs data reinforced bets that the Bank of Canada will keep rates on hold at its meeting later this month.
