Uber Guarantees EV Charging Usage and Pledges $100M for Robotaxi Fast-Charging Hubs

UBERUBER

Uber will guarantee minimum usage for EV chargers installed by partners like EVgo in US and Europe, targeting high-density driver neighborhoods to de-risk over 1,000 new stations. It will also spend over $100 million on DC fast-charging hubs for future robotaxis, beginning in San Francisco, Los Angeles and Dallas.

1. Two-Pronged EV Charging Strategy

Uber will offer usage guarantees to EV charging network operators, guaranteeing minimum revenue for chargers installed in neighborhoods where Uber drivers live or operate, using trip and residence data to optimize placement and support over 1,000 new public chargers in US and Europe.

2. $100M Robotaxi Fast-Charging Hubs

The company will invest more than $100 million to develop DC fast-charging hubs at autonomous vehicle depots in San Francisco Bay Area, Los Angeles and Dallas, covering site development, grid connections and equipment to ensure efficient charging and maximum vehicle uptime.

3. Partnerships and Competitive Landscape

Uber has partnered with Lucid, Nuro and Waymo to support next-generation autonomous EV fleets on its network, while facing competition from Tesla's robotaxis and Amazon-backed Zoox in the race to establish scalable charging infrastructure and dominate the autonomous ride-hailing market.
