Uber will invest more than $100 million to build DC fast-charging hubs in the San Francisco Bay Area, Los Angeles and Dallas to power its future autonomous fleets. The company also struck a deal with Lucid to deploy up to 20,000 Lucid EVs integrated with Nuro’s self-driving OS as robotaxis.

1. Uber’s $100M Charging Investment

Uber plans to commit over $100 million to develop DC fast-charging hubs in key markets like San Francisco, Los Angeles and Dallas to service its future autonomous fleets, funding site development, equipment, grid connections and capital expenditures.

2. Lucid Robotaxi Agreement

The deal calls for up to 20,000 Lucid electric vehicles outfitted with Nuro’s self-driving OS to operate as robotaxis on Uber’s platform, with vehicles charging at Uber-owned hubs and guaranteed usage at partner charger locations.

3. Infrastructure Benefits for Lucid

By securing both incentive-backed public chargers and dedicated DC fast-charging stations, Lucid gains a charging backbone that supports fleet utilization, reduces operating costs and improves uptime for its forthcoming robotaxi vehicles.

4. Competitive and Production Outlook

Integration with Uber’s charging network and the 20,000-vehicle commitment may enable Lucid to scale manufacturing more predictably, positioning it against competitors like Waymo, Tesla and Zoox in the autonomous mobility market.
