Uber, WeRide to Debut Zurich Robotaxis This Year and Houston Service in 2027
UBER•Uber will introduce a commercial robotaxi service in Greater Zurich later this year with WeRide, using Rydera for fleet management and aiming for fully driverless operations. Uber also teamed with Lucid and Nuro to launch a Houston robotaxi service in mid-2027 using Gravity SUVs and planning further U.S. expansions.
1. Greater Zurich Robotaxi Launch
Uber and WeRide will roll out a commercial robotaxi service in the Greater Zurich Region later this year, pending regulatory clearance from Switzerland’s Federal Roads Office. Local operator Rydera will oversee day-to-day fleet management under an asset-light model, with incremental fleet growth and a planned shift to fully driverless rides.
2. Houston Robotaxi Service in Mid-2027
Uber has partnered with Lucid and Nuro to deploy Lucid’s Gravity SUVs equipped with Level 4 autonomy in a Houston robotaxi service scheduled for mid-2027. The collaboration aims to expand into additional U.S. cities and leverage shared operational expertise for future autonomous mobility deployments.
