UBS housing attractiveness index puts mid-sized Swiss cities ahead of Zurich, Geneva for families

Households 10-15 minutes from a major center saved CHF 6,700 per year; Zurich-region savings reached CHF 11,500, and were above CHF 20,000 beyond 45 minutes.
UBS 2026 residential attractiveness indicator highlights mid-sized cities
UBS published its 2026 residential attractiveness indicator, ranking Swiss municipalities by infrastructure, leisure access, quality of life and living costs.
Mid-sized cities led many regional tables for families with two children, beating major centers on cost-adjusted location quality.
Zurich and Geneva missed top-three spots in their regions as high living costs reduced their rankings despite strong connectivity.
