UK diesel prices hit record highs due to impact of Iran war

The RAC said UK diesel prices reached a record high due to the US-Israeli war on Iran. Diesel cost 199.18 pence per litre on Monday, taking the cost of filling an average family car to almost £110, or £31 more than before the conflict began.
2. Supply pressures
The new high eclipsed the previous record of 199.09 pence in June 2022. The UK imports nearly 55% of the diesel it consumes, and diesel made up nearly 40% of its oil-product imports in 2025; the U.S. accounted for 31% of those imports.
3. Costs and policy
High diesel costs add to transport and logistics expenses across goods, while fuel prices are a key driver of UK inflation. RAC policy head Simon Williams said sustained lower oil prices over several weeks would be needed to lower pump prices and suggested the government could further reduce fuel duty or cut VAT.
