UK given access to safety-test latest AI models, minister says
QQQ•Britain’s AI Security Institute is evaluating the latest AI models, including Google’s Gemini 4 Argon, under voluntary agreements with developers, AI Minister Kanishka Narayan said.
1. Model safety evaluations
Britain’s AI Security Institute has access to the latest advanced AI models and is working with the US government and major developers, including Google, to assess their safety, Narayan said. He said institute scientists are evaluating models including Gemini 4 Argon to identify risks and test safeguards.
2. Access and cooperation
Under voluntary agreements, major AI developers provide the institute access to models before deployment so it can assess capabilities and risks and contribute to international safety standards. Narayan said he was confident Britain would be able to test the latest generation of models, citing the government’s long-standing relationship with the US.
3. Limits on model access
The announcement did not specify all models being evaluated. In September, the institute said Anthropic had made clear that no organisation outside the US had access to its Mythos 5.1 model.
