Uklon Launches Ukraine’s First Live Autonomous Vehicle Pilot at Boryspil Airport
KYIV•Uklon, a Kyivstar subsidiary, has begun live pilot testing of autonomous vehicle technology at Boryspil International Airport using onboard sensors, LiDAR, cameras, real-time connectivity and remote human operators. The project partners with airport authorities and government regulators to assess performance and shape Ukraine’s AV regulatory framework.
1. Pilot Launch Details
On May 27, Uklon began Ukraine’s first live testing of autonomous vehicles at a dedicated platform at Boryspil International Airport. The pilot features LiDAR, cameras, onboard sensors, real-time connectivity and remote human operators controlling vehicles.
2. Technology and Operations
The initiative leverages remote driving technology as a transitional layer toward full autonomy, using specialized software and low-latency networks to manage vehicle telemetry and assess system performance under varied airport conditions.
3. Strategic and Regulatory Partnerships
Uklon has partnered with Boryspil International Airport and government bodies, including the Ministry of Digital Transformation, to establish a long-term roadmap toward driverless operations and develop a regulatory framework for autonomous vehicles in Ukraine.
4. Market Outlook and Social Impact
As part of Kyivstar’s digital ecosystem strategy, Uklon aims to strengthen its position in Ukraine’s future robotaxi market, improve logistics efficiency and expand inclusive mobility options, such as enabling drivers with lower limb amputations to operate vehicles remotely.
