Ukraine hits Russian refinery as Zelenskiy says 'we're done' with Trump's energy truce
USO•Ukraine struck a refinery in Russia's Ryazan region after Volodymyr Zelenskiy said Kyiv was ending its pause on attacks against Russian refineries. The refinery, owned by Rosneft, accounts for nearly 5% of Russia's refining throughput.
1. Refinery struck
Ukraine struck a refinery in the Ryazan region southeast of Moscow on Thursday. Regional governor Pavel Malkov said a major Ukrainian drone attack caused a fire at the site, which is owned by Rosneft and accounts for nearly 5% of Russia's refinery throughput.
2. Energy truce ends
Zelenskiy said Ukraine's patience had run out and that the block on attacks against refineries was over. Kyiv had suspended attacks after Donald Trump announced an energy truce on Sunday, but Russia continued missile and drone strikes, including on energy targets that knocked out power to hundreds of thousands of people. Russian President Vladimir Putin said the Ukrainian attacks had caused "nothing particularly significant."
3. Wider tensions
Zelenskiy criticised Trump's willingness to make deals with Moscow and said changes affecting Ukraine's military Starlink systems were a policy decision. British Defence Minister Wes Streeting called for Trump to remain engaged in Ukraine. Ukrainian officials said the Starlink receptors were working in motion again, but only at speeds up to 100 miles per hour, too slow for some attack and interceptor drone missions.
