Ukraine's Zelenskiy blasts US-Russian diesel deal, welcomes bigger European role in peace process
USO•Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy condemned a US-Russian diesel deal, saying it would send money to Russia, and welcomed a greater European role in peace talks. He said Russian President Vladimir Putin was not interested in negotiations and that Starshield service had improved but was not fully restored.
1. Diesel deal draws criticism
Speaking at an EU summit in Brussels, Zelenskiy said the US-Russian diesel deal would send money to Russia to fund the war. French President Emmanuel Macron said the deal sent a negative signal and caused division and doubt.
2. Peace talks remain stalled
Zelenskiy called Russia's stance a “parody” of a genuine desire to end the war. Putin said Russia would establish a security zone inside Ukraine along the border and that the issue would not be part of future peace negotiations.
3. Starlink disruption and refinery strike
Zelenskiy said the operation of Starshield, the military-grade version of Starlink, had improved but was not fully restored, and that the disruption put civilians at risk. Trump denied responsibility for the reduction in service. Two industry sources said the Ryazan oil refinery suspended operations at one of its primary crude distillation units after a Ukrainian drone attack.
