Union Pacific debuts first two FLXdrive battery-electric locomotives in Southern California

Union Pacific began field testing two Wabtec FLXdrive battery-electric locomotives in Southern California as part of its emissions-reduction technology push.

Deployment targets switching and local service in the Los Angeles area to generate real-world performance and reliability data.

Two more locomotives are due in October, completing a four-unit fleet for the operating trial.

Each unit stores about 2.7 MWh, runs with zero tailpipe emissions, supported by roughly 7,000 battery cells.
